Upcoming webinar “Solar-to-X in energy communities: how can we make it happen?”

Updated: 3 days ago
Solar-to-X devices convert sunlight into products rather than only into electricity. Ammonia for on-site fertilizer, fuels such as methanol, and platform chemicals are all within reach of the EIC Solar-to-X portfolio. The technical progress is real, and so is the question that follows it.
Who will host the first installations, and under which conditions will they say yes?
Energy communities are probably not the first place anyone would look. Still, almost all of them are built around electricity generation, they run on voluntary work and self-funded infrastructure, and a fertilizer or a fuel is far removed from what they do today. That distance is precisely what makes them worth examining. They own sites and assets, they manage collective investment without waiting for a shareholder to approve it, and they answer to members who are often willing to try something before it has a proven market.
We at PHOTONIA put it to the test. We ranked the portfolio products against the reality of European energy communities, defined the prerequisites that each technology brings with it, and interviewed communities and umbrella associations in several Member States.
What you will take away:
The use case archetypes for Solar-to-X in energy communities;
What community representatives said about willingness to adopt, governance, financing and the practical conditions on their own sites;
A first view on near term and mid-term pilot pathways, and on the assets that make a community a credible testbed.
Who should attend:
Solar-to-X portfolio partners, energy communities and their umbrella organisations, farming cooperatives, project developers, funders and policy makers.
Practical information:
Speaker: Christos Trompoukis
When: Wednesday, October 21st, 10:00-11:00

The Solar-to-X Webinar Series is organised within the European Solar-to-X Pathfinder portfolio, which brings together projects developing breakthrough technologies that directly convert sunlight, water, and carbon oxides into fuels, chemicals, and materials.
