Newsletter, April 2026
Photonia offers a new approach to fertilizer production – no supply chains and no carbon emissions, all you need is to install a Photonia panel on the roof of your greenhouse and synthesize ammonia with just sunshine, air, and water. Since the project start in November 2025 Photonia has made strong progress, and we are pleased to share the details with you.
Events and visibility
The Photonia team attended three gatherings in Belgium including the Sustainability Meets Scalability event hosted by the European Innovation Council where we deepened our understanding of other projects of the Solar-to-X portfolio and found commonalities that will be used for joint technology development. Moreover, Jan Bormans (Th!nk E) and Luigi Vaccaro (UniPG) presented their keynotes on innovation and sustainability.

Light study
We designed and implemented a light study necessary to assess the impact that the Photonia technology will have on plants. We aim to create an environment in which plants feel comfortable and grow as if they were in a traditional greenhouse. The first experiment has come to an end, and the second iteration is about to start!

Online presence
We launched the LinkedIn and Tiktok accounts together with the Photonia Website and Solar-to-X Website to share progress, raise awareness, and disseminate results for target audiences. Have a look and follow us for more information about Photonia!
Collaboration with experts
We confirmed partnerships with three experts in the greenhouse innovation and horticulture sectors that will be closely involved in the technology exploitation strategy creation to assure product-market fit.
Technology development
All Photonia partners that are focused on technology development advanced in their research and reached their goals for the period.
What’s next?
In the coming months we will start market research activities that will help us understand market demands and shape the Photonia technology accordingly. The new light study will broaden our understanding of potential limitations that will be addressed by technology research and development partners in the Photonia team.
Thank you for staying with us! We look forward to sharing more interesting news with you.
The Solar-to-X Webinar Series is organised within the European Solar-to-X Pathfinder portfolio, which brings together projects developing breakthrough technologies that directly convert sunlight, water, and carbon oxides into fuels, chemicals, and materials.
